Therese has many strings to her bow: actor, writer, director, and dramaturge. She is particularly recognized for work with people from difficult backgrounds who she helps to find their voice and speak to their community. Therese grew up in the belly of the Black Country and due to her severe dyslexia did not sit well at school. In fact, sitting still has never been her strong point, and she still carries an energy with her that is ever-present. As a result of her school experience she did no training in the conventual sense, instead set up a theatre company – Intransit – believing that actually doing it is the best way to learn. Her career has been wide and varied including work as an actor: rural touring with Pentabus, rep touring, and Internationally in South Korea, Australia and Japan with Hanyong Theatre. Her most recent achievements include touring with the Birmingham rep’s Anita and Me, featuring in an award-winning short film Songbird, and having one of her plays produced at Portugal’s National Theatre. She regularly contributes to work with disadvantaged young people through Gazebo Theatre Company, helping boost their confidence to theatrically tell their stories. Other regular projects include writing, directing and performing for Catcher Media, an award-winning company. She frequently develops long and well-established relationships with the people she works for.
She’s worked as an actress for 31 years and carries a wealth of experience not only as a performer but as a person.
She also has a well-established writing career despite still struggling with dyslexia and has had 29 of her plays professionally produced.
Therese has a love of adventure and pushing boundaries to be it directing 600 primary school kids in a production created with Warwick Arts Centre, performing street theatre with Creature Encounter, working with offenders, or being unexpectedly caught up in civil unrest with her children in Kenya, 2008.
