BIOGRAPHY
Joy is a professionally trained actress recently graduating from the Brian Timoney Acting program, which fulfilled a long held desire to become a method actor. Her desire to perform was first ignited when she began tap and ballet lessons as a seven year-old and went on to perform at the Crane (now Epstein) Theatre in Liverpool.
Joy migrated with her family to the USA at the age of 11 and on returning to Liverpool 12 years later, she attended university and went onto become a social worker specialising in many different roles within the criminal justice system. More recently in 2017 she retrained in psychological therapies at Manchester University and went on to work in mental health teams in prison and the community.
Following retirement Joy was successful in auditioning for a place on the Brian Timoney Acting Program, a possibility and career she thought she had missed, but one which she can now devote herself to full time.
Based in the north-west Joy maintains a busy and active lifestyle, attending the gym, yoga, Zumba and Pilates. In 2024 she also trained for and completed the first 150 km of the Camino de Santiago in 10 days, beginning in France and crossing the Pyrenees on foot into Spain. Joy hopes to return one day to complete the rest of the Pilgrim Trail.
Joy brings a naturalistic style, warmth and empathic realism to her acting which is often characterised and commented upon by directors as maternal. She enjoys working collaboratively in a team, loving the process, especially improvisation and treats everyone with respect and understanding.
